Kouga Launches R26,5m Road Upgrade Project For St Francis

Kouga Local Municipality has officially launched its R26.5 million road upgrade project for the Greater St Francis area, marking another important investment in the region’s transport infrastructure.
The project will improve roads in St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis and Oyster Bay. It aims to create safer roads, improve traffic flow and extend the lifespan of key municipal infrastructure.
Road improvements across the region
The programme includes pothole repairs, stormwater improvements, crack sealing, asphalt overlays, slurry seals, new road markings and the installation of electrical ducting. These upgrades will improve road surfaces while helping to protect them from future deterioration.
In addition, the project forms part of Kouga’s wider R200 million road resealing programme, which was launched in January 2025. The municipality continues to invest in maintaining and upgrading roads across the Kouga region as part of its long-term infrastructure strategy.
Project expected to finish in November
Makali Plant and Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the project. Engineering Advice and Services will oversee the work as the consulting engineers.
Construction is expected to continue over the coming months, with the project scheduled for completion in November 2026.

Motorists urged to be cautious
During construction, motorists are encouraged to reduce their speed and exercise caution near work areas. Temporary traffic management measures may be in place at various locations as work progresses.

Once completed, the improvements are expected to deliver safer, smoother and more reliable roads for residents and visitors throughout the Greater St Francis area.
