Shipwreck Display Wednesday 20th
FOSTER, with the generous support of Rotary St Francis Bay, Lighthouse Construction and the Cape St Francis Civic and Ratepayers Association, have developed a shipwreck display at the entrance of Cape St Francis. It is in the commonly named “Anchor Garden” on one of the entrances to the Irma Booysen Nature Reserve.

Dave Bowmer, resident shipwreck expert and FOSTER’s reserve manager, will be on hand at the site from 08h00- 14h00 for the Shipwreck Display Wednesday 20th. He will tell you more about the fantastic stories of the many shipwrecks that lie along our stretch of coast and how they came to be there. He will also have more artefacts from his and Peter de Jongh’s collections. Learn about Cape St Francis Street names, the display, and more. Did you know that a U-boat sank a British merchant ship just a few kilometres off our coast during World War 2? No, nor did we until some rubber bales washed up on our shores.

FOSTER will also be there to tell you about the four excellent reserves that surround Cape St Francis and lead straight to St Francis Bay. Also, the amazing trails on offer, and how and where to access them for cycling, walking, and hiking. You can also renew your membership for 2024 or sign up to join FOSTER.

The weather forecast looks good, so please join us and learn more about our fascinating history and Flora and Fauna. At the same time, you should also bring your walking shoes and take a walk in the Irma Booysen Nature Reserve. Then, spend a few minutes just enjoying the display and the surroundings.
