Kouga Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, joined aspirant lifeguards at Jeffreys Bay Main Beach this morning for their time trials, putting his own mettle and endurance to the test in a series of running and swimming challenges.
Bornman experienced first-hand the physical demands of the qualifying trials, discovering that the combination of running and swimming was far more challenging than it might appear.
The time trials form part of the preparation process to identify and qualify lifeguards who will be appointed to beaches across Kouga during the upcoming festive season.
With thousands of visitors expected to flock to Kouga’s popular coastal destinations, these lifeguards will play a vital role in ensuring beachgoers can enjoy the summer holidays safely.
