Europe Is Recruiting South Africans With Big Salaries, Free Flights And Rent Incentives
Skilled South Africans are increasingly being targeted by employers in Belgium and Germany as both countries battle growing labour shortages and struggle to fill critical positions.
Companies are offering salary packages that many local professionals would find difficult to ignore, with monthly earnings ranging from around R68,000 to R97,000, alongside relocation support and family incentives.
Belgium currently has one of the highest job vacancy rates in the European Union, with more than 163,000 open positions reported. Nearly three-quarters of employers there say they are struggling to find suitable staff.
Germany faces a similar challenge. The country reportedly has more than one million unfilled jobs and is estimated to need at least 400,000 skilled foreign workers every year to maintain economic stability and support key industries.
The demand spans several sectors, including engineering, construction, healthcare, manufacturing, IT, logistics, technical trades, and infrastructure development.
To attract overseas talent, many major employers are offering extensive relocation packages to South African recruits.
Typical offers currently include:
- Salaries between €3,500 (about R68,000) and €5,000 (about R97,000) per month
- Signing bonuses of around €1,500
- Paid international airfare
- Three months of rent are covered
- Housing allowances in some cases
- Lunch or food allowances
- Visa costs covered by employers
- Family relocation assistance after one year
- Employment support for spouses
Both Belgium and Germany have also simplified aspects of their visa systems in an effort to speed up the recruitment of skilled foreign workers.
For many South Africans weighing up local economic pressure, rising costs, and overseas opportunities, Europe is increasingly becoming part of the conversation.
