For those who have been following Barry Buchman’s Pothole Repair Project on Facebook, this is his latest report. The donation details are at the bottom of the update.

Pothole Update | 27 May

Just as we had repaired almost all the potholes on the R330, ending just short of the Cape St Francis welcome sign, the storm of storms arrived.

The good news is that every one of the potholes we repaired, well over 200 in total, has remained intact. However, more than 200 new potholes have since formed where previous provincial patchwork repairs failed during the heavy rains. The R330 is once again heavily affected, particularly near Build It and along the stretch towards Cape St Francis.

While conditions are still far better than before the repairs, urgent work is required.

We have received a quotation of just over R100,000 to repair the current damage. This will cover the road from the St Francis side of the dip through to the entrance of Cape St Francis.

From the previous round of donations, we still have just over R30,000 available. We therefore need approximately R70,000 to complete the next phase of repairs.

We are appealing for further support from residents, businesses, visitors, and anyone who uses this road. Every contribution helps, regardless of size. Previous donations ranged from R100 to more substantial contributions from private individuals, local businesses, and the Rotary Club, who each donated R10,000 or more. The single largest donation received was R17,500.

As we move closer to full funding, we will continue to post updates so that the community remains informed and so that we avoid holding unnecessary surplus funds. Every cent received will go directly towards the road repair project.

Repair Plan

The repair work will take place in three phases:

• Phase 1: Cape St Francis to Build It
• Phase 2: Build It to the bridge
• Phase 3: Bridge to the dip

In addition, large potholes between the dip and the start of the resurfaced section in Humansdorp will also be addressed.

The estimated project duration is seven business days.
