The annual FOSTER JOL returns to Cape St Francis on Saturday, 25 July, with live music, food, prizes and fundraising in support of local conservation projects.

Community Favourite Returns

The annual FOSTER JOL will take place on Saturday, 25 July, from 18h00 until late at Joe Fish, Cape St Francis Resort.

The event has become one of the community’s favourite social gatherings, bringing together residents and visitors while raising funds for FOSTER’s conservation work.

Tickets cost R200 and include a complimentary welcome drink. Food stalls will operate throughout the evening, while Ghost Riders and Wildside will provide live entertainment.

Guests are encouraged to dress in black and white for the Best Dressed competition. Ticket holders will also go into the draw to win a booze barrel.

Tickets Available Now

Tickets are available through Quicket and from the Cape St Francis Resort reception. A limited number will also be sold at the door, although early booking is recommended.

Several local residents have chosen to celebrate their birthdays at this year’s event, adding to what is expected to be another memorable evening.

FOSTER has thanked Cape St Francis Resort for once again sponsoring the venue and for its continued support.

Trail Improvement Completed

FOSTER has completed the rerouting of the dual-use cycling and walking trail around the blind corner on the Shearwater Drive side of the Cape St Francis Nature Reserve.

The project was undertaken to improve safety by creating better separation between cyclists and pedestrians.

Signage and barriers will be installed shortly. Until then, trail users are asked to continue treating the area as shared-use and to approach with caution.

Recent winter rain has also produced strong vegetation growth across the reserves. While indigenous plants are flourishing, the additional growth has increased the demand for regular trail maintenance.

Alien vegetation clearing remains FOSTER’s highest priority, while maintenance continues across all reserves, with high-use areas receiving priority attention.

Supporting Local Conservation

Funds raised through the FOSTER JOL help the organisation manage and protect the Cape St Francis nature reserves.

FOSTER also relies on annual memberships to support its conservation work throughout the year. Membership costs R350 per family per year.

SANCCOB Brings Seabird Conservation Presentation To St Francis

SANCCOB will visit St Francis on Saturday, 25 July, to present two public sessions on seabird conservation, including a children’s Eco-Kids programme and an adult presentation hosted by the Kromme Enviro-Trust.

Eco-Kids Learn About Penguin Conservation

The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) will present two educational sessions at the Heritage Centre, Harbour Road, St Francis, on Saturday, 25 July.

The first session, Eco-Kids: Saving Penguins, runs from 9.00am to 10.30am and has been developed specifically for children.

The programme introduces young participants to penguin conservation and seabird conservation through interactive educational activities. Children will learn about South Africa’s coastal birds, their habitats and the conservation work being undertaken to protect vulnerable species.

SANCCOB Adult Presentation

The second session, Saving Seabirds: SANCCOB’s Role, takes place from 11.30am to 12.30pm and is open to the public.

The presentation will explain the challenges facing seabirds, including the African penguin, and outline SANCCOB’s work in marine bird rescue, rehabilitation, research and conservation.

Representatives from SANCCOB will travel from Gqeberha to present both sessions, giving local residents the opportunity to hear directly from one of South Africa’s leading marine bird conservation organisations.

Community Invited To Attend

The presentations are being hosted by the Kromme Enviro-Trust, which is encouraging residents to attend the adult session and support this conservation initiative.

Community participation will help raise awareness of the threats facing seabirds and the work being carried out to protect South Africa’s marine bird populations.

Both presentations will be held at the Heritage Centre, Harbour Road, St Francis.
