Rotary Club Of St Francis Supports Sea Vista Youth Tennis

Rotary Club Of St Francis Supports Sea Vista Youth Tennis

The Rotary Club of St Francis has supported the Sea Vista youth tennis programme with equipment and clothing. The donation helps approximately 20 children enjoy regular tennis sessions while developing skills that extend beyond the court.

Hosted at the St Francis Tennis Club, the programme welcomes children aged eight to 17. They play twice a week in a safe, structured environment, with support from dedicated volunteers Stella Plantinga and Ninon Roos.

Building Confidence Through Tennis

For these young players, tennis offers more than an introduction to a sport. Each session provides an opportunity to build confidence, practise discipline and develop teamwork.

Furthermore, regular participation helps children strengthen their self-esteem as they learn new skills and recognise their progress. Having supportive adults alongside them also creates a sense of belonging.

For children with limited access to organised sport, these opportunities can make a meaningful difference. A regular afternoon activity gives them something positive to anticipate and a place to focus their energy.

Rotary Provides Equipment And Clothing

To support the Sea Vista youth tennis programme, Rotary supplied tennis rackets, balls and training equipment. In addition, the children received tennis shoes, T-shirts and caps.

Together, these donations help equip the participants for their twice-weekly sessions. Access to suitable equipment supports their involvement, allowing them to concentrate on learning and enjoying their time on court.

The contribution also supports the volunteers who give their time and energy to the programme.

Supporting Opportunities For Sea Vista Children

Stella and Ninon’s commitment gives young people a consistent space to participate, learn and grow. Meanwhile, Rotary’s support helps sustain the practical foundations of that work.

The programme brings together sport, encouragement and community support. Through these regular sessions, Sea Vista children have the chance to discover their abilities and carry that confidence into everyday life.

Newsflash from St Francis Property Owners NPC (SRA): Work On The Groynes Has Resumed

After a brief pause while supplies of large armour rock were being replenished, work on the groynes has resumed. The team is now focused on Groyne NG1 at Anne Avenue Beach. With approximately 20 metres remaining, we anticipate steady progress towards completion, subject to site and weather conditions.

A temporary ‘Round Head’ has been placed on Groyne NG3 at Peter Crescent to protect the structure until work resumes there. Construction will return to NG3 once NG1 is complete.

Opening Young Minds to New Possibilities – Sea Vista Soccer and Surfing Youth Programs

Opening Young Minds to New Possibilities – Sea Vista Soccer and Surfing Youth Programs

Sport may be what brings them together, but for two Sea Vista youth programmes, the opportunities extend well beyond the soccer field and the waves.

With support from the Kromme Enviro-Trust, 20 young players from St Francis Bay Soccer and 11 youngsters from the local 9Miles Project surfing programme travelled to Gqeberha on 28 September. They enjoyed a day combining environmental education, sport and new experiences.

SANCCOB

Their first stop was SANCCOB at Cape Recife, where the group learnt about the critically endangered African penguin and some of the challenges facing our marine environment. The Kromme Enviro-Trust sponsored the visit as part of its commitment to encouraging environmental awareness and education among young people in our community.

The youngsters visited the penguin rehabilitation centre, met penguins that are unable to return to the wild and learnt about the impact of plastic pollution, overfishing and other threats to marine life. Importantly, the message was not simply about the problems facing our oceans, but about what individuals can do to make a difference. The youngsters were encouraged to reduce waste, reuse and recycle wherever possible.

NMB Stadium

After lunch – and, inevitably, an impromptu game of soccer – the group headed to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. For the young soccer players in particular, walking into a major stadium offered a chance to imagine where their own sporting ambitions might one day take them.

The outing was made possible through the support of several St Francis Bay organisations and businesses. Kromme Enviro-Trust sponsored the entrance fees to SANCCOB and the stadium, the Rotary Club of St Francis Bay sponsored the transport. Village Square SPAR provided food and refreshments for the group.

Special thanks go to Matt Davies of St Francis Bay Soccer and Showney Adams of the 9Miles Project. This for their dedication to creating opportunities for Sea Vista’s young people.

Days like these are about much more than an outing. They give young people an opportunity to experience something new, learn about the world beyond their immediate surroundings. Perhaps most importantly, imagine new possibilities for their own futures.
