JEFFREYS BAY – The Planning and Development Department of Kouga Municipality recently hosted an informative workshop focused on the effective implementation of legislation governing land disposal and acquisition.
Held at Mentors Country Estate in Jeffreys Bay, the workshop brought together Kouga Municipality Councillors and key stakeholders to enhance understanding and ensure alignment with current legislative frameworks.
Attendees heard from a variety of speakers, including the Kouga Municipality Land and Property Manager, Legal Manager, and GIS Officer, as well as members from the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).
The workshop covered essential topics such as draft policy development, legislative alignment, and systems for land and property administration. Additionally, discussions focused on urban land release and acquisition strategies for municipalities, best practices in asset management, and methods to enhance municipal revenue.
Kouga Deputy Executive Mayor, Timothy Jantjes, emphasised the importance of such initiatives, stating, “By deepening our understanding of the legislation and best practices in land management, we are empowering Kouga to manage its land assets more effectively and strategically.
“This knowledge is key to driving sustainable development across the region.”
Reflecting on the workshop’s impact, he added, “The workshop has laid a solid foundation for strengthening Kouga’s land administration systems, aligning them with national policy, and enhancing our ability to maximise municipal revenue through responsible asset management.”
