Billy’s and Ballies: Get Ready – Notes From The Editor
Before you know it, it’ll be that time of the year when kids from all over the country gather in St Francis Bay for Billy’s Beach. It is a massive local success story along with feel-good trappings, providing jobs, and a vast influx of people spending money in the village and surrounding areas. It obviously comes with its very own strains of negativity that always come with any outdoor concert anywhere in the world.
The Mother Grundys of St Francis Bay are no doubt ready to unleash, poised over their keyboards and primed to light up Facebook with their apoplectic indignation.
People are having too much fun!
“Too much loud music, parking problems, late nights, noise pollution, what has this place to come to? When will the music stop? Call the police; there are madmen around! There are criminals in town. Too many car guards! No car guards! Urination! Where is the security? Drinking! People are having too much fun! When will the uproar end so we can enjoy our quiet little village ourselves?” and other such pearls of wisdom to rain down on us over the season.
The thing is, Billy’s is so focused on doing good and running the best show ever that there are few problems for an event of this magnitude, a crowning achievement to the contest organisers. Speaking of which, this is what they got up to last year. This excerpt is from an editorial we ran earlier this year that explained the fundraising from last year.
Donation To Rotary
“The annual Billy’s Beach Music Festival, a renowned event in St Francis Bay over the New Year period, has become a staple for adult teenagers and millennials. In recent years, the festival has expanded its impact by including a major fundraising evening known as the Billy’s Beach Ballies Party (hence the Billy’s and Ballies) aimed at 30 to 50-year-olds, typically parents of the attending teenagers.
Recognising the importance of community development, the festival organisers, many of whom are holiday homeowners residing outside the town, have entrusted the management and execution of community projects to the Rotary Club of St Francis. Under this collaboration, the Rotary Club of St Francis has embarked on ten projects subject to regular feedback and progress reports.”
