St Francis Tourism is entering a new leadership phase and pursuing a fresh direction for the region’s visitor economy.
HANTIE’S FAREWELL
After eleven years as Office Manager, Hantie van der Westhuizen steps down to focus on personal pursuits. She will continue running the monthly Saturday St Francis Market, a village fixture she nurtured.
Her steady management, service on the Kouga Local Tourism Organisation (KLTO) committee, and ward council representation earned widespread respect. The committee thanks her for laying strong foundations for future growth.
RESTRUCTURE
St. Francis Tourism announced a restructuring a couple of months ago. This was designed in consultation with members to better attract high-end coastal travellers and deliver greater value to the region.
The three-year business plan focuses on authenticity, sustainability and community benefit. At the same time, setting targets for visitor numbers, digital reach and industry collaboration.
Key changes aim to deliver clear benefits. They are: improved efficiency through clearer roles, better decision-making with smarter data use, and more opportunities for local businesses via stronger connections with regional partners.
INTRODUCING DEBBIE DUNCAN
The new Tourism Officer, Debbie Duncan, brings over 30 years of experience in destination marketing and stakeholder engagement from Amadeus, CWT (Bidvest), and InterContinental Hotels.
Having relocated to St Francis Bay earlier this year, she will focus immediately on connecting with local tourism partners, assessing current marketing strategies, and identifying quick wins to increase off-peak visitor numbers. She will also strengthen collaboration across Kouga’s tourism network.
The committee encourages stakeholders to welcome Debbie Duncan and share ideas for the future. Debbie can be reached through St Francis Tourism channels at office@stfrancistourism.co.za, 042 294 0076, or 060 531 0516.

Well done Hantie on your many years of excellent service!
