On Sunday, all the young surf groms from the area gathered at Seal Point for the first Seal Point Boardriders Club grom comp of 2025.
The waves were really fun in the corner, and the groms took to the water for their heats with the help of parents and other club members assisting some of the younger surfers.

Great Occasion

The event was a great occasion and was well attended. Including all the parents, friends, organisers and siblings, there were about 50 people present, and about 15 grom surfers were having a go in the competition and enjoying the perfect little runners that the corner was delivering.

After being in the mid-20s the whole summer, the water had cooled down a little with the recent easterly winds, but this didn’t cool down the surfing one bit, with red-hot ripping from all of our stoked young competitive surfers.
With extra points awarded for commitment and length of ride, there were some champion performances out there, with so many surfers pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and having a go on the bigger, heavier set waves that were pouring through.

Star Performances

Star performances included Leo McLeod, Taylor Thornton, Summer Harding, Brin Jarvis and Abi Jorge, who had one massive backhand takeoff and nearly got the barrel of her life in the process.

In fact there were a couple of barrels coming through in the corner and further down the beach. Other club members like Troye Jorge, Dan Thornton, Nicky Godfrey and Rylan Jarvis were busy snagging their fair share of tubes in between pushing our kids into waves and watching them charging hard for the judges.

Then, there were boerewors rolls and juice for all the kids and hungry parents at the beach, as well as a few refreshing beverages for the adults.

The Seal Point Boardriders Club has a busy schedule this year, with grom comps, inter-club events, club championships, the Annual General Meeting and more.
