St Francis Bay – Kouga Municipality is set to start with the reinstatement of critical infrastructure in St Francis Bay, addressing damage caused by the severe storms of September 2023
As part of this project, two key roads will be closed for resurfacing from Monday, 16 September 2024 to 20 September 2024. The affected roads are Nevil Road (Mary Crescent) and Anne Avenue to Ralph Road.
Nevil Road rehabilitation
Nevil Road, which suffered significant storm damage, will undergo extensive repairs. The project, with an estimated cost of R600 000, will include the removal and reinstallation of barrier curbs, the complete overlay of the road with asphalt, and the shaping and compaction of the earth parking area, pending budget availability.
Anne Avenue to Ralph Road repairs
The section from Anne Avenue to Ralph Road also experienced extensive damage in the 2023 storms. The project, with a total cost of R1.9 million, will involve a range of works, including repairing the damaged road edge from the sub-base level, reinstating barrier kerbs along the entire stretch, and formalising a small parking bay.
Additionally, the entire road and parking areas will be overlaid with asphalt, potholes will be fixed, and the base material corrected prior to the asphalt overlay. Repairs will also be made to damaged stormwater catchpits and outlet structures, while rock revetments along Anne Avenue will be reinstated and reinforced. Road and parking spaces will be marked as part of the final phase.
Impact on Residents
The appointed contractor will communicate directly with residents living near the affected areas to provide exact details on when they will need to temporarily move their vehicles. This is necessary to allow the construction team to complete the work without obstruction. Residents are encouraged to make alternative parking arrangements for any vehicles they will need during the day.
