Kouga building approvals top R5.58 billion over five years

Kouga building approvals top R5.58 billion over five years

Kouga Local Municipality has approved 5,339 building plans over the past five years, with an estimated construction value of more than R5.58 billion.

The approvals cover residential, commercial and other building projects across the municipality. This development supports local contractors, building professionals, suppliers and businesses.

Building plans and revenue

The approved plans have a combined estimated construction value of R5,583,043,550. The municipality also received more than R24.17 million in revenue from processing these applications.

These figures reflect continued investment in Kouga’s towns and communities. However, building plan approvals and completed projects represent different stages of the development process.

Completed building projects

During the same period, the municipality issued 4,036 occupancy certificates for completed projects with an estimated construction value of R3.39 billion.

An occupancy certificate confirms that a completed building meets the applicable requirements and can be occupied.

Inspections and building standards

The municipality also recorded 5,418 building application inspections over the five years, of which 3,843 were approved.

Through plan assessments and inspections, the municipality monitors compliance with building regulations and municipal requirements. These checks help maintain building standards and support structural safety as development continues across Kouga.
