Most people know Joshua Jansen as the tall kid carving up waves at Jeffreys Bay. But this month, the 19-year-old added another feather to his cap, this time on dry land. Joshua walked away with the title of Mr Teen World South Africa 2025. It was announced in July, at the Wits Theatre in Johannesburg.
Instead of a surfboard, it was his smile, confidence, and effortless stage presence that wowed the judges. Next stop? Lima, Peru, where he’ll represent South Africa at the international finals this November.
A Handshake from the Mayor
Back home, celebrations quickly followed. Kouga’s Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, personally congratulated Joshua, calling his achievement an inspiration for local youth. With one foot in the waves and the other on the runway, Joshua has carved out a rare space for himself. He has shown that Kouga can produce ambassadors. These ambassadors are as comfortable under stage lights as they are under the South African sun.
The Pageant with Staying Power
The Mr Teen World competition has become a landmark on the global pageant calendar. Born in Ecuador and Peru back in 2001 through industry veteran Cesar Montece, the event was later revived in 2014 by Rodrigo Moreira after Montece’s passing. Today, it’s a magnet for young talent from across the globe. Winners often use the platform to leap into international careers.
From J-Bay to Jet Lag
For Joshua, the Lima event isn’t just a contest; it’s a chance to showcase the South African spirit on the world stage. From paddling out at J-Bay to preparing for the lights of an international catwalk, his story is a reminder that local talent can make waves far beyond home shores.
