We have recently erected some temporary signage highlighting the existence of African Black Oystercatcher nests in the vicinity of Shark Point. Our thanks to committee member Stella Plantinga and volunteer, Ninon Roos for making the arrangements.
They have this tendency of nesting and laying eggs in vulnerable locations and are open to predators, high tides or as a result of human / domestic animal disturbance.
If you do see these signs, then please try and take a wide berth and if with a dog, then leash the dog for a short time until safely past.
Should you by chance find nests / eggs that are potentially at risk then please let us know and we can arrange signage.
Further to this, should you see young chicks then please leave them in situ as their parents will not be far away
