“Time flies when you’re having fun,” and it’s certainly true for those of us enjoying the trails in our reserves. Even with the weather reminding us of our coastal location—close to the Cape of Storms and at the southeastern tip of Africa—it’s always a pleasure to explore the great outdoors.

Please spare a thought for our reserves team—Dave, Richard, and Jerry—who work diligently in all but the most extreme conditions, such as blinding rain, to keep our reserves in excellent shape. We need your support now more than ever. Only about 120 of our 235 members from two years ago have renewed their membership. If there’s something we’re doing wrong, please let us know. Visit foster.org.za to renew or join. Thank you!

In addition to ongoing maintenance, alien clearing, and quick repairs from storm damage, Foster has been focused on the Bitou clearing project around the lighthouse. The difference is remarkable: we’ve exposed the dam in the wetland and allowed the natural fynbos to start making a comeback. You might even spot an otter or a variety of birds and frogs if you visit the area. Please remember to park only in designated areas.

There are several key events coming up that we hope you’ll support:

  1. Beach Cleanup: Join us on Sunday for a beach cleanup in collaboration with the Krom Enviro Trust. The recent storms, increased shipping traffic, and open chukka season have led to more debris, plastic, and rubbish on the Wildside. Please dedicate an hour or two to help us make a difference.
  2. Wildflower and Shipwreck Experience: As part of the Calamari Festival from September 25-27, join us for a unique event featuring resident botany and shipwreck experts. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore an amazing display of artifacts and plants at the CSF Resort. Space is limited, so please book at the resort reception or call 042 298 0054.
  3. FOSTER Golf Day: Golfers, mark your calendars for November 2nd for our annual FOSTER Golf Day. Known for its incredible prizes, this event promises a few surprises as well. Don’t miss out!

Finally, in collaboration with the CSF Civics and Rotary, we have completed the Elke M Shipwreck display. Located at the entrance to Cape St Francis, this informative exhibit, along with the cannon, makes for a worthwhile visit.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our community efforts.
