Father’s Day Month

Father’s Day is on Sunday the 19th of June, but we think that maybe we should dedicate the whole month to all the dads out there. All the guys who work hard, play hard and deserve a little bit of extra attention at this time of the year.

We have two excellent SPAR-inspired recipes that might be enough for the dad in your life. Which dad out there can ignore a three cheese and onion quesadilla? Or, who could ever turn down a yummy bacon and meatball pasta? 

If you want to cook the dad in your life something special, then look no further; we have the recipes for you. 

Three Cheese & Onion Quesadillas

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp SPAR Sunflower oil
  • 2 SPAR Freshline onions, finely sliced
  • 2 cups SPAR Freshline baby spinach
  • 8 medium wraps
  • 1 cup grated SPAR cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated SPAR Edam cheese
  • ½ cup SPAR cream cheese
  • Chilli flakes
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 Tbsp SPAR olive oil
  • Fresh tomato salsa (or ready-made jar salsa) for serving
  • SPAR Freshline Limes for serving

METHOD

  • In a medium-to-large pan, slowly caramelise the onion in the oil – it should take about 15 minutes.
  • Add the baby spinach and let it wilt.
  • Spread four wraps with cream cheese, then divide the other two cheeses. Them top with onion and spinach, and season well with salt and pepper and a sprinkle of chilli flakes.
  • Top with the remaining wraps.
  • Add ½ Tbsp oil to the pan and carefully cook each quesadilla for about 2-3 minutes on a side or until golden and flip.
  • Serve with either fresh tomato salsa or a ready-made jar of salsa.

New Fridges

We are also very proud to announce that the installation of the new freezers and fridges is now complete. As a result, we have some new frozen products and others coming in. We will be expanding our cheese, frozen and vegan ranges over the next few weeks and months, and we will advise accordingly.

Bacon Meatball Pasta

Our second Father’s Day Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 500g SPAR Select mince
  • 200g SPAR bacon – either back, shoulder or streaky – finely chopped
  • 1 SPAR Freshline onion, super finely diced
  • 2 SPAR Freshline garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 Tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 2 Tbsp chopped SPAR Freshline basil *optional
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 Tbsp SPAR olive oil
  • 1 jar (400ml) of your favourite tomato-based pasta sauce
  • 400g pasta of your choice, cooked according to the packaged instructions
  • SPAR Marksbury Select Parmesan cheese and SPAR Freshline basil for serving

METHOD

  • Mix all the meatball ingredients well.
  • Divide the mix into 20 and roll into balls.
  • Heat the olive oil—Cook the meatballs over medium heat for about 4 minutes or until cooked.
  • Add the pasta sauce to the pan and heat through – at this stage, you can also add ½ cup of the pasta cooking water (after the pasta has been cooked) if the sauce is too thick.
  • Serve on pasta with a scattering of parmesan and fresh basil.
