The “Open Your Eyes, Sterilize” initiative was launched at the beginning of this year by the St Francis Bay SPCA fund-raising team to achieve their mission of preventing the birth of unwanted puppies and the cruelty that stems from this.
The St Francis Bay fund-raisers are a small, self-appointed team who are not members of the SPCA committee though they are fully committed to achieving the SPCA’s goal of preventing animal cruelty.
A series of fund-raising events has been held throughout this year comprising SPCA Dog Walks at the Links Golf Course – kind courtesy of Jeff Clause and the Links staff who’ve welcomed dog walkers with open arms and provided water on route.
Dune Ridge Country Lodge has been the location for a series of SPCA’ Ladies Tea Clubs’ where Sarah Swanepoel – manager and hostess – has laid on sumptuous teas to accompany a talk for up to 80 guests. Speakers thus far have included: Dr. Peet Kemp, an inspiring motivational speaker, paralyzed from the waist down who moves by means of a remote-controlled ‘battery’ implanted beneath his skin.
Another speaker was Allan Haschick, talented landscaper, author of ‘Coastal Gardening in South Africa’ and assistant manager of Flora Dale Nursery in Port Elizabeth who spoke about the ‘10 best kept secrets of coastal gardening’.
The SPCA Book Fest, to be held at The Links Clubhouse on Thursday September 3, welcomes the publisher and four authors from Cape Town based; Modjaji Books, to speak to a group of 80 St Francis Bay book lovers about the process of writing and getting your book published. The talks will be accompanied by a delicious three-course meal, free wine at each table, fabulous raffle prizes and a book auction.
All the money made from these events is deposited directly with participating vets in St Francis Bay, Humansdorp and Jeffrey’s Bay and used specifically for the purpose of sterilizing township dogs and treating illness and cruelty cases in need of funding.
The fund-raising team are grateful to all those residents of St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis for their continued support of the Open Your Eyes & Sterilize Campaign.
