PST – CHANGE OF NAME TO THE SAST

Delegates at the final NATCOM Meeting of 2016 approved a proposal by the SSA Board that the name PST (Pro Surf Tour) be changed to the SA Surf Tour (SAST). The SAST will cater for surfers in the U10 – U16 Divisions while the WSL will cater for surfers in the U18 and Open categories. If funding for WSL Pro Junior events is not available Surfing South Africa might include U18 Divisions in the SAST events but these will be specialty contests with prize money but no ratings points.

• Please note that it will cost R400 to join the SAST this year.

These funds plus the event entry fees will be used to cover the costs of the SAST events during 2017 AND will go towards the year end Prizepool cash payments which will be made to the winners of the U10 to U16 divisions.

Details of how many contests will count towards the final year end ratings will be circulated in a separate email.

SURFING SOUTH AFRICA EVENTS CALENDAR – VERSION # 1

The first SSA Events Calendar for 2017 is attached. More GROMCOMPS are expected to be added to the Calendar in due course.

2017 BILLABONG SA GROMMET GAMES presented by SPORT & RECREATION SA

Due the fact an International Ironman Event is taking place in Port Elizabeth on April 2^nd we are unable to hold the SA Grommet Games over this period.

As we receive funding from Sport and Recreation SA to run the Grommet Games and because all events that receive funding from SRSA must be completed prior to March 31 2017 we have chosen dates for the Grom Games that incorporate a public holiday that falls between a Sunday and a public holiday on the Tuesday. Please refer to the Events Calendar.

The SA Grommet Games age groups, division numbers and team sizes have changed. The transformation target has been increased to EIGHT.

The 2017 details are as follows:

• U8 DIVISION: ONE SURFER (GIRL or BOY)
• U10 DIVISION: TWO SURFERS (GIRLS or BOYS)
• U12 DIVISION: THREE BOYS & TWO GIRLS
• U14 DIVISION: THREE BOYS & TWO GIRLS
• U16 DIVISION: TWO BOYS & TWO GIRLS

TOTAL: 17

2017 BILLABONG SA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

The age groups and division numbers for the SA Junior Championships have changed and fall in line with the SA Grommet Games age groups.

The age groups and division numbers are as follows

• U12 DIVISION: TWO BOYS & ONE GIRL
• U14 DIVISION: FOUR BOYS & TWO GIRLS
• U16 DIVISION: FOUR BOYS & THREE GIRLS
• U18 DIVISION: FOUR BOYS & THREE GIRLS

TOTAL: 23

• ALL SCORES COUNT.

2017 SA CHAMPIONSHIPS & SA MASTERS CHAMPS COMBINED

The 2017 SA Championships and the SA Masters Championships will be combined in 2017 and will take place at Nahoon Reef in East London.Refer to the Events Calendar for dates.

The Age groups and numbers per division are as follows

SA Champs (Presidents Cup)

• MENS DIVISION: SIX  (one must be Over 30)
• WOMENS DIVISION: FOUR (one must be Over 30)

TOTAL: 10

SA Masters Champs (Masters Cup)

• O35: THREE
• O40: FOUR
• O45: FOUR
• O50: THREE
• O55: TWO
• OVER: ONE

TOTAL: 17

• SURFERS MAY REPRESENT THEIR DISTRICT IN BOTH THE OPEN DIVISION AND IN THEIR OWN AGE GROUP.
