St Francis College vs Greenwood Bay Annual Fixture
St Francis College (SFC) has an annual home and away fixture with Greenwood Bay College of Plettenberg Bay for their Under 11 and Under 13 pupils. On 17 and 18 February this year, the SFC summer tour was held at GBC where the boys played cricket and the girls played beach volleyball on the first day with a swimming gala taking place on the second day.
The follow-up fixture took place on 2nd and 3rd June when GBC visited SFC in St Francis. The boys played soccer and the girls played netball on the first day, and the under 13 boys and girls played hockey on the second day.
Our Under 11 soccer boys beat GBC by 3-0 while our Under 13 boys drew 2-2 in a nail biting match. The netball girls didn’t fare quite as well with the Under 11 netball girls losing 5-8 while our Under 13 girls lost 0-8.
In the hockey on the second day, our 1st team girls beat GBC by 5 goals to 3 after trailing 1-2 at one stage. The 1st team boys had a similar experience, after trailing 1-2 at half time, they rallied together in a clinical second half display to win by 5-2.
A Burgers and Bingo Evening at Port St Francis Ski Boat and Yacht Club followed the first day’s matches to give pupils and parents of both schools an opportunity to set aside the competition and enjoy some social interaction.
SFC Head, Franzyl Bause is deeply committed to continue with this tradition. “I was really proud of the grit shown by both our hockey teams and the exhilarating senior soccer match. Our netball girls continue to improve and displayed the same ‘never say day attitude’ of their hockey counterparts.
Compliments must go to GBC Head Luke Perkins and Chad Wright (GBC Sport Head) and their friendly, engaging pupils. We look forward to our 2018 fixtures,” he said.
