St Francis College takes third

DO saints wear shoes? Topics like these had brains on high alert when a St Francis College team pitted their mind muscles against 22 schools in this year’s LitQuiz event, held at St George’s Prep School in Port Elizabeth.

Recently, eight St Francis College pupils, together with teachers Mrs Louise Ackerman and Miss Trudi Van Olm, attended the Sunday Times Kids’ Lit Quiz. Four pupils were there to observe and gain invaluable experience to launch an onslaught in next year’s competition. The other four took third place in the competition, a remarkable achievement.

“It was great fun! I enjoyed the New Zealand quizmaster’s clever questions, too,” said student Sinéad Stewart.

Beach Fun Day a February Favourite

Life’s a beach in Cape St Francis.

Pupils and staff enjoyed their annual ‘sand, sea and fun’ morning in Cape St Francis recently, when the St Francis College beach fun day kicked off with a jam-packed programme of rounders, sponge races, sandcastle-building, a flag competition and rugby – principal Franzl Bause’s version.

The event gives teachers and children a welcome break from the classroom in summer and a chance to soak up the last few weeks of the season.

“Everyone at the college, from Grade 00 to Grade 7, enjoyed our beach fun day, which gives staff an opportunity to connect with their new students in a relaxed, outdoor environment. Here, they can get to know each other a little better – and have lots of fun doing so,” said headmaster Franzl Bause.
