Things in and around St Francis seem to be coming together just in time for the holiday rush.
It would seem the petrol station will be opening today much to the relief of many. Seeing the number of boats being towed along St Francis Drive over the last few days the petrol attendants should expect to be rushed off their feet not only by motorists now probably running on fumes but also boaters desperate to start cruising the canals
St Francis Property Owners’ (SFPO) Nigel Aitken informed St Francis Today that all the public toilets are ready for the season and the SM Hart have very kindly agreed to ensure these facilities are locked at night to prevent the sort of vandalism we, or some reason, have to endure over the holidays.
Another really welcome facility is the extended parking area that SFPO have organised for those shopping at Spar and other shops in the Village centre. This truly is a much needed initiative and will certainly relieve not only the parking shortage but also traffic congestion often caused by people double parking in the existing area waiting for a parking spot.
In the interests of keeping our little seaside village plastic and litter free, residents and holidaymakers are encouraged to please use the temporary recycling drop-off point that SFPO, in collaboration with the Kouga Municipality has organised a for the duration of the 2018/19 holiday season.
The drop off point is at the municipal yard behind the fire station on St Francis Drive. The association has employed two locals to oversee the facility and they will be on hand to assist those dropping recycling matter. Paper, glass, tins and plastic should be separated into separate bags for each type.
Garden refuse will only be accepted if bagged and this service is for the convenience of residents only. Garden services companies must please use the formal waste site in Humansdorp as usual.
It is important to note that no household waste will be accepted. This will be collected by the Kouga Municipality refuse collection service on the established collection days.
We appeal to the public for cooperation in adhering to these conditions to facilitate the smooth running of the project.
