The Selective Lighting Story

Selective Lighting was born in Port Elizabeth in 1978 by 3 members of the Muller family. Ernest and Linda and Ernest’s mom, Marje. Ernest was qualified and worked in the construction business for 10 years before he stumbled across a defunct lighting business for sale.

He bought it and renamed the business, and went about learning all he could about the decorative electrical lighting industry.

After a few years, he travelled to European lighting fairs to import his own lighting products.

The Fire Works started about 20 years ago as a section of the Selective Lighting Muller business. Ernest met an agent selling quality fireplaces on one of his overseas trips. The first order was placed, and the rest is history. The company branched out later and found a manufacturer in South Africa willing to make quality Braais for their customers.

Bradley and Warwick joined the family business after completing post-Matric studies in 2002. They flourished in the business, each contributing with their own strengths and qualifications. In 2015 Ernest and Linda passed on the baton and ownership to Warwick and Bradley. During his retirement, Ernest remains a mentor and services customers in the building industry.

After 40 years of owning a holiday home in St Francis Bay, Ernest and Linda have decided to become completely local and have relocated to St Francis Bay.

We are very excited to announce the opening of our branch & showroom in St Francis Bay on the Build It premises on Tarragona Road. This branch is an extension of the 400sqm showroom based in Port Elizabeth.

We are delighted to welcome Susara Mills – affectionately known as Saartjie – to the company. She has 12 years of experience in the lighting industry. She has built great relationships with builders and electricians in the Kouga area.

We are stockists of all major brands of lighting products- Brightstar, Eurolux, Radiant, K-lite & Spazio, Matrix and Onesto.

We have our own imported high-quality range of Selective fans. They are Scandinavian design with DC energy-saving motors, silent and brushless with remote control.

We are stockists of major fireplace brands, namely Calore, Home Fires, Jotul, Infinity, Charnwood, Morso, Godin, Dovre & Chad o Chef gas units and Chad o Chef pizza ovens.

This year we celebrate 45 years of providing our customers with good-quality lighting solutions for homes and workplaces. Apart from an extensive range of lighting products, we offer expert advice to our customers to ensure a beautiful and cost-effective result. Our loyal, experienced staff welcomes our customers’ queries and offers solutions.
