Rock Royalty to perform in Cape St Francis!

Duncan Faureof RABBIT fame & Mel Botes at The Rock Lilly!

Rock Lily has signed up Rock Royalty to perform on Friday 5th May. Duncan Faure, formerly of RABBITT, the four-piece South African pop rock phenomenon that captured the imagination of a generation, went platinum and generated unprecedented mania among screaming fans who flocked to sold-out venues to lose their marbles to iconic songs like Charlie and Lonely Loner Too. This is where rock legend Duncan Faure took his first step into the limelight. Since then, this talented composer, lyricist, vocal artist, guitarist and keyboard player has managed to play in yet another best-selling band, write 100+ songs and make his way into the Rock Godz Hall of Fame in Las Vegas (USA) in 2014, due to his prolific contribution to rock music. Best of all – Faure is making his way back home for a nationwide tour,

Accompanying Faure will be one of South Africantop musicians Mel Botes,

Who is Mel Botes?

Mel Botes’s music reflects his passion, exuberant creativity and a mind that questions everything: sense and purpose but also boundaries, consciousness and reality. It abounds with contrasting qualities – sometimes bittersweet, painfully beautiful, sad; dramatic, majestic, inspiring, compelling; sometimes disturbing, tempestuous, with explosions of sound that surprise,  but  NEVER boring.  He is definitely one of the most versatile artists in South Africa in his capacity of songwriter, guitarist and producer of powerfully entertaining concept shows.

No surprise then that Mel made his memorable debut on the local music scene in 1998 with a concept show, a rock concert and album.  The CD of this unusually affecting rock-production, David’s Confession – About Time has become a collector’s item and much sought after.

His first Afrikaans album, Oomblik van Waansin (with a title that is a tribute to Pink Floyds’ Momentary Lapse of Reason) is a deeply personal and lyrical chronicle of his own journey:  “It is about the way I grew up, my mom and dad, social influences.”

In 2001 he won a Geraas Award as the Best Songwriter in Afrikaans for Oomblik van Waansin!

Much later .. Mel’s affinity for conceptual stage shows was demonstrated again in 2005 with the musical play Flight of Bird during the Aardklop Arts Festival in Potchefstroom. The production was nominated for an AngloGold Ashanti Smeltkroes Award.

One of his extremely popular productions – Crazy Diamond – A Tribute to Pink Floyd, has already been staged more than 200 times since its debut in 2008 at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival.  This electrifying multi-dimensional show received raving reviews during the past two years and hundreds of die-hard fans of the most successful rock bands of all time who attended the shows, were taken aback by the authentic sounds and captivating story.
