Community Urged To Take A Stand
– Kouga Local Municipality is facing a serious and escalating crisis due to the ongoing vandalism and theft of municipal infrastructure. This is why there is a R10 000 reward for information on infrastructure vandalism.
In the past month alone, electrical cables at the Humansdorp Fire Station have been stolen five times, plunging the station into darkness for hours at a time. Thus severely impacting emergency response services.
Sabotage
“This deliberate sabotage threatens the safety and well-being of the community and cannot be tolerated,” said Kouga Executive Deputy Mayor and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Electro and Mechanical Services, Timothy Jantjes.
“We cannot allow criminals to continue crippling essential services and putting our residents at risk. Theft and vandalism of municipal infrastructure directly impacts service delivery and hurt the entire community.
“They disrupt power supply, water infrastructure, and public facilities. This forces residents to endure unnecessary hardships. Repairing the damage diverts funds away from essential infrastructure projects, ultimately making life harder for everyone.
“This is not just a municipal issue – it is a community issue, and we all have a role to play in stopping it.”
Criminal Destruction
To combat this criminal destruction, the municipality is offering a reward of R10 000 for information leading to the successful arrest and prosecution of those responsible for vandalizing municipal infrastructure.
“We urge residents to come forward with any information that can help bring these offenders to justice,” said Jantjes.
Residents who have witnessed suspicious activities or possess any information regarding infrastructure damage are urged to make contact. Get hold of Senior Law Enforcement Officials Johnny Hayward at 081 322 7399 and Adam Floors at 081 215 8713.
All reports will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. The identities of informants will be fully protected.
