But oh so delish
Chocolate heaven arrived in St Francis Bay last week when the Chocoholix shop finally opened after weeks of frustrating chocolate lovers. And WOW, it was worth waiting for!
Chocoholix found its roots in the little Kwazulu Natal hamlet of Rosetta some ten or more years ago as part of the internationally famous Midlands Meander. Owners Kereth and Cindeez Guilbride decided they needed a change from the icy winters of Rosetta and headed for the sunny climes of the Eastern Cape. They initially chose Jeffreys Bay but when unable to secure suitable premises, found the ideal retail space tucked between Albert Saunders Attorney and SM Hart on St Francis Drive in St Francis Bay.
Having been intrigued by the sign above the door some weeks back I had asked the owners to call when they opened so on Thursday with the NOW OPEN sign on the door I dropped in to find out more. The Chalk Board at the entrance heralded their ‘DUNKINGZ SENSATION’ and seemingly a great place to start my chocolate tasting experience.
The Dunkingz Sensation is a type of chocolate Fondue served in a warming bowl to keep the chocolate warm and dippabie. There is a choice of white, milk or dark chocolate to choose as your dip but then the surpriZe. Expecting a different fruits on my plate there was gherkin, biltong, dried wors, licorice as well as strawberries, grapes and other fruits. Truly a different taste sensation and one simply has to try it, especially the hot chocolate coated gherkin with its sweet sour sweet sensation.
Kereth advises that when enjoying the Dunkingz the trick is to make as bigger mess as possible and the dish is served on a large sheet of paper to allow just that. The penalty for not making a mess is that you will be required to wash the dishes so chocoholics, tuck in!
Asked which of them is the chocolatier their reply was neither for they rather prefer to be referred to as FUNLATIERS and want their customers to come and fun with chocolate.
Oh! They also serve coffee in a choice of ways and something I will be returning to try very soon, Belgium Waffles served with Cream, Ice Cream and no doubt, chocolate.
And with Christmas coming their wide range of handmade chocolates are sure to be in many a Christmas stocking. A word of warning though in the coming hot months, keep the chocs in the a cool place lest they melt.
All chocolate is made from imported un-tempered Belgian chocolate and then hand tempered on site to create the wonderful choices that Chocoholix has on offer. And yes they do have choice of chocolate suitable for diabetics.
Jeffreys Bay’s loss is certainly St Francis’ gain. Kereth and Cindeez have chosen to settle in Cape St Francis where dog lover Cindeez can be spotted most mornings walking the beach before setting off to create another delectable batch of Chocoholix delicacies.
