Letter from Mayor Hattingh Bornman
Dear Residents of Kouga
Nationally, municipalities owe ESKOM a staggering R78 billion.
The Minister of Electricity and Energy recently warned that municipal debt owed to Eskom is projected to increase to R3.1 trillion by 2050, and will lead to the power utility’s collapse if it is not resolved.
Here in the EC, municipalities owe ESKOM nearly R9 Million!
This is one example of how mismanagement at a municipal level can affect all of us.
I am extremely proud that we, Kouga Municipality, owe ESKOM R0. A reflection of good, clean governance.
Eskom’s practice of treating this challenge with more tariffs to cover lost revenue from previous years creates a vicious cycle of increases and places the burden on all of us.
That is why I am again inviting all residents of Kouga and of the EC to sign our petition opposing the proposed 40% electricity tariff increase.
More tariff increases are not the answer and will not resolve this systemic issue.
We need your voice. Sign our petition and stand with us against Eskom’s unaffordable tariff hike.

Totally against the increase in Tariff. Eskom must get back their money from all the thieves in their employment and reduce their unnecessary fat bonuses and salaries
agree no tariff increase just connect a couple of the wind turbines in the town vicinity to our system and the problem will be solved
I totally disagree with the electricity price hike, the government need to scale down the number of members of parliament, quite unnecessary to have that number. They need to scale down their salaries as they are absolutely ridiculous. They need to start building flats for the townships. So get your heads out of the sand and start behaving like responsible human beings.
Totally against the Escom increase .
