Last Night of the Proms

Prime Timers, a local St Francis social club started by Paulene Hardy at the beginning of the year have enjoyed several excellent and diverse outings with their first being a trip in February to Addo Elepant National Park followed by lunch at Hopefield Country Lodge where they also enjoyed a short a piano and cello duet of classical music.

March saw a group of Prime Timers travel to Twee Rivier where they lunched at Belfry Kitchen, a rather unusual concept in dining or shopping does not necessarily require cash for barter trades are welcome. April saw a group travel to Port Elizabeth for the annual ‘Concert in the Park’ where they were entertained to an afternoon of music performed ab the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra with guest appearances by Tracy-Lee Oliver and Sampson Diamond.

This past weekend saw the group head off to Port Elizabeth for the annual ‘Last Night of the Proms’. After first enjoying the superb buffet lunch on offer at Humewood Hotel the group proceeded to  the ‘Proms’, held in the historic Feathermarket Hall where the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra this time under baton of Richard Cock performed to a full house. Always a fun event this year’s performances included mass choirs, a solo Soprano, world champion dancers, and the Caledonian Pipe Band, complete in their national tartans with the final curtain coming down on the traditional singing of Land of Hope and Glory where many of the audience joined in.

During the winter months all outings will be strictly during the day.  Next outing, not to be missed, will provide an excellent lunch on Friday 17th June.

New members are always welcomed. Phone Paulene 084 7897801 or Colleen 083 6282176
