JEFFREYS BAY – Kouga Municipality proudly endorses and stands alongside 1Roof, an inspiring non-profit enterprise dedicated to the radical transformation of lives through the launch of its innovative initiative.

Officially inaugurated on 27 November 2023, at Mentorskraal in Jeffreys Bay, this occasion marks a significant step towards empowering communities and combating global poverty. This through eco-friendly roofing solutions.

Kouga Municipality supports 1Roof

In collaboration with the Greater Stellenbosch Trust, 1Roof aims to rejuvenate socio-economic infrastructure, fortify communities, and combat poverty through sustainable, waterproofing solutions. 1Roof fecognises the pivotal role of structures like schools, churches, and old-age homes within communities. 1Roof emphasises the need for resilient structures capable of weathering challenges posed by rain and wind.

Importantly, the organisation prioritises community engagement, understanding that their needs are paramount in establishing sustainable and impactful change.

Ferdie Fryer, the Executive at 1Roof, shared, “Our mission is rooted in the alleviation of poverty. This by the enhancement of socio-economic structures to drive tangible improvements in lives. We strive not only to effect change but also to support governmental bodies and strategic partners in fostering resilient and empowered communities.”

The current initiative in infrastructure rehabilitation presents an opportunity for job creation and skills transfer. By integrating a six-month internship programme, 1Roof equips individuals with hands-on experience. Thus empowering them to create their own sustainable sources of income.

Optimise employability, empower communities.

The vision is clear: optimise employability, empower communities, and foster skill development. This through identified projects as practical avenues for learning and skill transfer.

Among the notable structures renovated by 1Roof are GS Humansdorp, AGS Jeffreys Bay, BRC Humansdorp, Graslaagte Primary School, Makakhanye Primary School, and the Protea Old Age Home in Humansdorp.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, expressed his support, stating, “Kouga Municipality is honoured to endorse the impactful work of 1Roof. Their commitment to community-driven transformation aligns with our vision for resilient and thriving communities. We encourage everyone to join hands in this noble cause.

“We support this noble initiative and urge the community and stakeholders to engage and contribute where possible. Together, we possess the ability to effect change, one roof at a time.”
