Kouga – Kouga Local Municipality invites residents, businesses, and stakeholders to participate in the public consultation process for the review of the Integrated Economic Growth (IEG) Strategy, in accordance with Section 21 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, 2000, Chapter 4 (16).

The IEG Strategy is a comprehensive short-, medium-, and long-term plan aimed at addressing the economic challenges facing Kouga within the broader South African economic landscape. It seeks to identify and leverage the region’s comparative advantages to drive sustainable economic growth and development.

Guided by key principles such as inclusivity, collaboration, climate change adaptation, SMART city development, resilience, and competitiveness, the strategy provides a structured approach to fostering a robust local economy. It focuses on several economic sectors, including general economic development, the oceans economy, the green energy sector, property development, the manufacturing industry, and agriculture.

The strategy recognises that inclusive economic growth is essential in addressing poverty and inequality while improving the livelihoods of both current and future generations. It represents a long-term commitment to fostering a robust local economy through a structured and continuous implementation program.

Help shape Kouga’s economic future

Furthermore, the strategy aims to ensure that all stakeholder efforts within Kouga Municipality are prioritized and aligned for maximum economic impact. By focusing on the region’s unique strengths, such as agriculture, the ocean economy, and nature-based tourism, Kouga can position itself competitively within the national and global market.
