Debbie Nicholson Properties – Cape St Francis
Trading since September 2009, Debbie Nicholson Properties in Cape St Francis have evolved over the past six years as a multi-faceted property and service business of residential and commercial property. Run by husband and wife team Paul and Debbie Nicholson, who have collectively over 40 years in property, their business is about more than ‘just selling houses’.
The couple’s ‘love affair’ with Cape St Francis stretches back over thirty years when, whilst living in Durban before moving to the Eastern Cape 15 years ago, Paul’s love of surfing regularly brought them to Cape St Francis. Chatting with Paul, he recounts several humorous stories of their early days, first as a student than as a young married couple, about camping in what is now Cape St Francis Resort.
Paul, with over 30 years’ experience in all facets of property is known for his objective and ‘hands-on’ approach to dealing with both sellers and buyers. His in-depth knowledge of all aspects of residential and commercial property including tax implications, CGT, trusts and investment returns are of immense benefit to assisting purchasers / investors in making the big property decision. Don’t be misled by the casual, laid back appearance…or the surfboard.
Debbie, a qualified landscaper swapped her passion for landscaping to the property industry when she identified a need for a rental agent in the region. With over 60 houses ranging from top of the range to small budget apartments in her portfolio, the holiday season sees Debbie and her team efficiently ensuring holiday makers using her services a great holiday in Cape St Francis.
Chatting to Debbie. “Coming to live permanently in a place where you have holidayed for 30+ years is always difficult as you lose a special place to go on holiday and definitely don’t get to do what you used to do when you were on holiday! However, it is incredibly gratifying to be a part of making that holiday dream come true for others….and then there is the fact that we get to stay here when everyone else goes home”
But Debbie is not just about selling and renting property and has embraced the local community creating job opportunities or empowering local Sea Vista residents to start their own little businesses. One such business is a small laundry business which Debbie helped start by assisting the owner with the purchase of washers and dryers and who now looks after all Debbie’s laundry requirements.
The house cleaning service too has grown consistently over the past 6 years and has helped to put money into the pockets of local, un-skilled people, both men and women. In order to mitigate the ‘feast or famine’ aspect of income earning in this area, carpet cleaning and window cleaning have also been added to their growing range of services. Another is the baking of biscuits used as gifts for holiday rental clients, a lucrative little income for women in their employ. “Enabling local people to create income earning opportunities is very high up on our wish list” says Debbie.
Debbie Nicholson Properties have recently moved office and can now be found in the Seal Point Apartment complex in Panaghia Street around the corner from Jan’s Winkel. A new and welcomed addition to the business is Anita Graham who has the job of balancing the admin needs of growing rental business and a demanding property sales division. On the rental side, the services of well-known and experienced rental agent Tarryn Ward help Debbie ensure all things run smoothly. And last but not least is Vernon Uithaler, often seen on his yellow scooter moving from house to house supervising cleaning staff and ensuring all the finer details of a rental are taken care of.
