Has Springbok rugby lost its gloss

Judging by the number of pubs offering rugby specials for the upcoming Springboks vs England test series it certainly seems so. In years gone by we would have had Cape St Francis Resort, St Francis Links, Legends and Rock Lily (now closed) vying for the business of fans. Now it seems only Legends is promoting to attract customers.

It could of course be that with so many subscribers cancelling their DSTV in preference for Netflix that the other pubs realise they have a captured audience and don’t need to give anything away to attract customers knowing they will have a full house. Then again is it because the English have not fared well this year in spite of all Eddie Jones boasts? Or is it the continued poor result of our national rugby side that is causing fans to lose interest?

For those who will be watching, be it in front of the fire in your lounge or crowded round the big screen with your mates in a pub, lets give a shout for our Boks, they deserve it and the lineup certainly looks different but really talented. Trying to reme, ber when the last time their was an Eastern Province born and bred Springbok Captain. Hannes Marais springs to mind but anyone else have any ideas?

Comrades Marathon

To all those competing in this weekend’s Comrades Marathon all the best for a good, pain free run. And to Debbi Nevay Hudson, so sorry you won’t be running and flying the St Francis flag but we are sure you will be glued to your TV following your English friend’s and any other St Francis runners progress.

Hole in One
