The highly anticipated 33rd edition of The Sea Harvest Grom Games, presented by The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, is set to take place this weekend in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal.
Recognized as Surfing South Africa’s premier grassroots event, the Grom Games focus on participation and development rather than competition. The event brings together young surfers from eight district teams who will compete provincially in their respective regions.
Provincial Breakdown:
• KwaZulu-Natal:
Dairy Beach, Durban Beachfront – Ugu Surfriders, Ilembe Surfriders, and eThekwini Surfriders will battle it out along the East Coast.
• Eastern Cape:
Pollock Beach (PE Pipe), Gqeberha – Buffalo City Surfriders, and Nelson Mandela Bay Surfriders will compete at this renowned surf spot, which will also host the Sea Harvest Pipe Junior event from April 2–4.
• Western Cape:
Muizenberg – Due to ongoing renovations at Surfers Corner, this year’s event will take place near the iconic Muizenberg Bathing Boxes, where Cape Town Surfriders, Cape Winelands Surfriders, and Eden Surfriders will compete in the spirit of grassroots surfing.
St Francis-based surfers Max Burrows and Marco Micheletti will be competing in the U16 division
The Sea Harvest Grom Games are a crucial stepping stone in South Africa’s surfing development pipeline, fostering young talent and encouraging a lifelong passion for the sport.
