Pollock Beach, Gqeberha – In small but contestable conditions at Pipe, Louise Lepront and Clay Turrell emerged victorious in the U18 division of the Sea Harvest Pipe Junior surfing tournament on Friday.
In a decisive victory, Lepront beat Emily Jenkinson into second in the Girl’s division, while Turrell took the win from Levi Epenetos in the Boys. Both finals were hard-fought in the small, running right-handers.
The natural-footer Jenkinson won the U16 Girls division from the goofy-footed Leah Lepront on her backhand, making two finals. Kai Stubbs took the U16 Boys division from Ben Esterhuyse, with both surfers throwing caution to the wind in their respective bids for victory.

U14 Boys
Slayde Shooter was the victor in the ultra-competitive U14 Boys division, and he took the win from Sebastian Copson.
Thereafter, Maya Malherbe secured the win in the U14 Girls division in a very exciting final. All five girls were going tooth and nail in the final, and Malherbe found the winning wave while under priority and smashed it on her backhand for the win.
Ethan Schermbrucker took the U12 winners’ trophy from Lazaro De Bryn with a strong and polished performance, underpinning the fact that there is a young, robust new crew coming through the ranks from Kommetjie that will be a significant threat in the future.

Kouga – Kouga Local Municipality is proud to announce the inaugural Kouga Careers Expo 2025 – a transformative event designed to empower the region’s youth and create pathways to success.
Taking place on 10 and 11 April 2025 at Mentors Country Estate in Jeffreys Bay, this groundbreaking exhibition will offer career guidance, training opportunities, and employment resources for senior learners and unemployed youth.
Entry to the exhibition is free.
Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, will officially open the event, with Shadow MEC for Basic Education, MPL Horatio Hendricks, in attendance.
Engage, Network, and Explore
The Kouga Careers Expo 2025 extends a warm invitation to all stakeholders –
including learners, parents, business owners, residents, and both employed and unemployed individuals.
This event is more than just a career exhibition, it is a platform for growth, networking, and unlocking new possibilities.
“Kouga’s future lies in the hands of our young people, and it is our responsibility to equip them with the tools they need to succeed,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman. “This expo is a testament to our commitment to education, skills development, and employment opportunities. I encourage all members of our community to attend, engage, and be part of this initiative that will shape the future of our region.”
Building a Sustainable Future
The expo is a collaborative effort spearheaded by Kouga Local Municipality’s Special Programmes Unit in the Office of the Executive Mayor, in partnership with Inkanyezi and Mentors Country Estate. It aims to bridge the gap between young individuals and key stakeholders in academia, business, and government, fostering a stronger, more sustainable local economy.
What to Expect at the Expo
This two-day event will feature a dynamic range of interactive and informative opportunities, all free of charge to schools and visitors:
- Career Counselling & Assessments – Personalized guidance, including online career assessments with instant, detailed reports.
- Department of Education-Approved Guidance – A comprehensive tool aligned with the Grade 12 Life Orientation syllabus, offering step-by-step career planning support.
- Exhibitions & Networking – Direct engagement with employers, educational institutions, government agencies (including the Department of Labour and SETAs), and community-based organisations.
“This event is about creating opportunities for everyone, whether you are a student exploring career paths, a job seeker looking for employment prospects, or a business owner eager to connect with emerging talent,” added Bornman. “By coming together, we can build a future where every individual in Kouga has the chance to thrive.”

The Sea Vista Community Umbrella is an organisation comprised of volunteers and community members focused on uplifting the Sea Vista Community. The purpose is to work together and support one another in the many projects in place, or to encourage those with a vision for new projects. Many of these projects are related to soccer.
Did you know that there are seven different soccer teams in Sea Vista involving around 180 young people ranging in age from 9 to 40? The aim for all of them is to provide a safe environment for youngsters and adults and to motivate them by giving football coaching and skills development.
Seven local soccer teams: their needs
These teams all have similar needs, primarily soccer balls, soccer gear, tracksuits, bibs and boots. They also need training equipment such as cones, hurdles, slalom poles, speed ladders, and stopwatches. For all of them, the biggest challenge is transport for the players to get to away matches. Some have devised innovative ways of raising funds, such as selling bunny chows and hot dogs to earn a seat on the bus.

Seven local soccer teams in St Francis Bay
Driving around the greater St Francis area, you would have seen many soccer clubs practising, mostly in the afternoons and early evenings.
Read about them here:
Eleven Bullets Soccer Team:
practices on the open spaces on the Main Road between St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis. Their club is 11 years old. Please call Willem Duiker, their coach, if you can help with balls and tracksuits: 063 244 5660
Hullets United FC Soccer Team:
have been playing since 2006. Soccer balls, guards and tracksuits are their biggest need. Please call: Mthobeli Tovy: 073 501 8968
St Francis Bay Galaxy Youth Academy:
They have been running since 2011, and they have two groups, one for younger players, 13- and 14-year-olds and another catering to players 19 years and older. They practise near the tennis courts in St Francis Bay. Thomas, their coach, has a dream of becoming a soccer agent. He would appreciate any help in achieving this goal.
One of our Sea Vista youngsters, Khanyasilo Mdledle from this team, has been selected to attend London and Manchester in August with Proskills. Proskills is a professional soccer coaching organisation that sends young South Africans to play in the United Kingdom. They have been competing in the Manchester Cup since 2022. Khanyasilo needs funding to go, R40,000.00. This is to cover flights, tracksuits and kits. Perhaps you or your organisation would consider sponsoring him? Details can be provided if you are interested in supporting him. If you can help, contact Thomas ‘Shoes’ Kuka: 063 220 5525 or kukathomas21@gmail.com.
has been running since 2019. It is a registered NPO, and Matt Davis is its coach and manager. They are trying to upgrade soccer fields in Sea Vista and specifically need funds. A container to turn into change rooms and toilets is a big need, too. You can call Matt Davis: 072 992 1097 or mattdstyles@gmail.com
St Francis Eleven FC:
has been in existence since 2008. They practise Mondays to Fridays from 17:30 to 19:30. They need equipment, especially soccer balls. Call: Patrick Bokani: 083 590 7871
St Francis Future Stars:
They are a young club, they have been going since 2023. They also practise on the Main Road. This club caters specifically to players 15 years and older. Kobie, their coach, is particularly keen to get training equipment, and importantly, a first-aid kit. Call Kobie Adams at 078 116 8878 if you can help.
St Francis Links FC:
It is a club that caters to young players aged 13-18. Their coach is Dan: 082 470 6068
