The West Wind Issue 12 Is Out

The St Francis Bay community digital community magazine The West Wind has just released its 12th issue. It is the biggest issue to date. Coming in at 104 pages, it is filled with community news, interviews and happenings from the greater St Francis Bay area, including JBay, Humansdorp and Oyster Bay.

Each issue of The West Wind features a local photographer. This area seems to have so many world-class photographers shooting nature and more. In this issue, it is Clive Wright who reveals his fantastic photographer to the world.

Our local artist is Jacquie Jorgensen, who has amazing sea and wavescape art and other, more exciting stuff. “I work in oils,” said Jacquie. “Other than the sea and wavescapes, I love to paint water in different forms. My inspiration board is full of pictures of water, reflections in water, horses and the cosmos.”

There is a feature on how to keep it cool over summer, a fun article on how to keep things tidy during the busy months of summer and not get too stressed by the crowds, and how to relax and take it easy over the season.

We also interview the incredible local vet, Nerine Botha. She tells us how she ended up in St Francis Bay as the local vet and how exciting the adventure was. “My husband’s family had a holiday home in Cape St Francis as he was growing up,” said Nerine. “On our honeymoon, we stayed in Knysna, and he brought me here to show me. I fell in love with this little piece of paradise. We moved down about two years later.”

There is also an announcement that the Wine On Water festival will finally kick off, and everyone is stoked. The wine festival will take place on the canals on the final weekend of February. All tickets that were not refunded are still valid.

Renowned fiction writer Melissa Volker continues her series on how to Stand Up Paddleboard in and around the St Francis Bay area. Her series has been quite delightful and has helped many people along the way to become competent SUPers.

The magazine wraps with a breakdown of the recent SA Junior Surfing Champs and how the local surfers fared. They did well, with the Dace brothers Joel and Rory both getting good final results.

It’s a Go for Wine On Water

It’s a Go for Wine On Water

St Francis Bay Canals: Yes, there have been a few date changes, but this one is the real deal. Finally, Wine On Water has been confirmed for the 25th / 26th February 2022.
Their initial launch was extremely popular, and the initial tickets for the event were sold out fairly quickly. However, after the C19 pandemic wrought its worldwide mayhem, there were cancellations and refunds, but the current situation is thus:
• All tickets that were not refunded are still valid.
• There are 310 tickets left for the event, and they will go on sale on Quicket https://www.quicket.co.za/events/97240-wine-on-water-st-francis-bay/?preview=t#/ on 2 November at 09h00.
• The Wine On Water festival will have strict Covid regulations in place.
• Over the next few weeks, regular information will be disseminated from the Wine On Water organisers with regards to more details about the upcoming festival.
It is recommended that if you want to grab any of those remaining tickets, that you’re ready and waiting on 2 November, 09h00, minimum two cups of coffee down. You’re going to have to be fast and be prepared to let your fingers fly all over the keyboard. We estimate that the tickets will be gone within an hour or two.
Wine On Water brought to you by Investec is a Rotary Club Of St Francis charity wine tasting festival. It is set to take place on the canals and at some of the beautiful waterside homes on the St Francis Bay canals.
Water taxis will give rides to festival-goers, who will have the opportunity of tasting 20 of the finest wine estates in the country. These estates will be set up on decks at private homes with tasting stations for their fine wines.

FOSTER Golf Day 6 November

FOSTER Golf Day 6 November

One hundred and seventy six players in 44 four balls will be in action at the St Francis local Golf Club from early in the morning on 6th November. We are delighted with the generosity and support of our golfing community which also includes many players from Port Elizabeth and further afield. We have a number of companies sponsoring greens and many individuals and companies have sponsored some amazing prizes from cases of wine and beer, meals at local restaurants, whale watching and portrait photography to mention a few. We will list all of these generous donors in our match report after the event.

The funds raised will be earmarked for fixing and maintaining the paths in the Seal Point Nature Reserve around the lighthouse. The work done in the Cape St Francis Reserve recently, including the rehabilitation of the Two Bay Trail, shows what FOSTER can do to keep our reserves in pristine condition when adequately resourced.

Having a full field with great prizes with a few days to go before the event, is a credit to the hard work the organisers have put to ensure a memorable and successful day. The FOSTER committee will also be there with their new Gazebo and merchandising material to cheer the golfers on and encourage players to become members of FOSTER if they are not already.

Whilst keen golfers who still wish to play will have to see if there are any cancellations in the FOSTER Golf Day, we still have some greens available for sponsorship and will be most grateful for additional prizes. It’s going to be a great day whilst our amateurs are having fun at the lower course, the pros will be playing at the Links in the PGA. The weather looks like it will be playing its part as well.
