A multidisciplinary forces Operation Festive Season in Humansdorp Cluster yielded positive results after a shebeen was closed, liquor confiscated and 13 spaza shops were fined for contravening several by-laws in Humansdorp and Storms River today.
On Friday, 02 November 2018. An eight hour long operation closed an illegal liquor outlet in Arcadia, Humansdorp and 29.3 litres of liquor valued about R 2 000 was confiscated. 13 spaza shops were fined for contravening various by-laws totalling R14 700. In three spaza shops, officials confiscated and disposed goods valued over R30 000 after the goods had long reached expiry dates. Eight licenced taverns were served compliance notices for contravening Liquor Act. Five foreign nationals were arrested for contravening immigration laws. Two persons were arrested on outstanding warrants of arrest. 116 vehicles were searched in several roadblocks that were held on N2.
Acting Cluster Commander in Humansdorp, Colonel Simon Swarts commended the efforts of various government departments, “This success comes after the Minister of Police launched Operation in Port Elizabeth yesterday, and this is a better way of showing our state of readiness as law enforcers, in ensuring that our people are going to experience a safer Festive Season. At this time of the year, we are urging residents to be more vigilant, and report any suspicious individual or vehicle to the police, so as to curb violent crimes”.
