The second Calamari Festival, organised by St Francis Tourism, is a mere two weeks away – the action will be at the Market grounds on Saturday 22 September, from 11am to 5pm.

The Festival was created in 2017 to complement the long-standing Calamari Golf & Bowls Classics, and building on the success of the inaugural event, the team at St Francis Tourism promises the 2018 Festival, sponsored by Christopher Consulting and the Kouga Municipality, to be bigger and better.

What is a Calamari Festival without a programme involving calamari?

My Kitchen Rules Celebrity Chefs Lani and Louzel are the star attraction for the Festival where the talented Mother and Daughter duo will not only be offering 3 demonstrations of their culinary skills across the day, but also judging the hugely popular Calamari Cook Off Competition.

Home cooks and professionals are challenged to go head to head in a bid to be named Calamari King/Queen 2018. Teams can be made up of families or friends, with company teams also invited under the new corporate category.

So, get your entry in!  Challenge the B&B next to you, the estate agent across the street, butcher vs baker – we want your entry!

Entries are limited to 25 teams, each creating their own Calamari dish using local calamari supplied by Frontline Seafood Traders and ingredients sponsored by Village Square SuperSpar and First Choice.

The title is currently held by The Pirates Social Club – can you beat them?  All entry fees for the Cook Off will be donated to NSRI Station 21.

Also at the Festival: a variety of craft beers, gins, Limoncello and wine tastings will be available throughout the day alongside food trucks and market stalls.

A live music stage showcases some of the finest talents in the Eastern Cape – Driftwinds, Letters from Jane, Belle & the Beard and The Edward Allen Band.

A special Kidzone is organised by learners of Woodridge College, offering a variety of games and activities for all ages.

Whilst the main festival action happens on the 22nd, the Calamari weekend also offers sporting action in many disciplines including golf and bowls, visitors have the chance to compete in the first Nautical Half Marathon organised by St Francis Runners on Sunday 23rd September. Evening entertainment is available in bars, restaurants and venues throughout the weekend in both St Francis and Cape St Francis.
