Change in Boks itinerary

SA Rugby decided to change the Bok November Internationals itinerary.

Boks vs Whales

It appears from the photo of the sign (above) posted at Rock Lily,  the Boks have sensibly rearranged their match programme and instead of playing the fire breathing dragons of Wales they will now be taking on, very appropriate for St Francis, a team made up of Whales on Saturday. The Whales have agreed to play on land on condition it can be on the beach as feel they have some experience of beach conditions and it would have an unfair advantage if they had chosen home ground advantage and played at sea.  The Bok coach has apparently stated that it gives him a chance to at last bring his backline into play although De Allenda feels he can still bash his way through the whale’s defense. Willem Alberts it seems is injured so the coach has said he will allow the flyhalf to receive the ball when the Boks are in the opposition twenty two rather than have his forwards playing pivot as they do in their games against normal rugby international teams. According to the notice board  tickets are only R80 so obviously the game is to be played on the expansive sands of Cape St Francis beach.

SARU has also apparently left their options for the Boks next game open and will only decide on their opposition after the whales game. Should they win, their next game will be against the Ostriches for like the Boks, they are unlikely to remember their game plan even if they have one. Apologies Ostriches but being bird brained it really is unlikely you guys will be able to remember the game plan. The coach has indicated if they play the ostriches he will have to revert to the kicking game for the ostriches are renowned for their kicking. To this end he is considering calling up Naas as the kicking coach as well as recalling accomplished kickers Frans and Morne Steyn.

Should the Boks loose to the whales their next game will most likely be the Dodo’s which should give the Boks a great end to their tour with at least one win. That said it will still not be an easy game as they will still need to catch the ball to score.

But fun aside, Rock Lily has a marvelous offering pre-game with a tribute to Bob Dylan tonight. Hope to see you there. Maybe wear your ‘Bok or whales jersey to show who your money is on to win.

Sorry Mike, one doesn’t often get a chance for a bit of fun!

Appeal Dog Walkers on Golf Course

Appeal goes out to Dog Walkers on Golf Course – AGAIN

It seems some dog owners simply have no respect for others!

The St Francis Bay Golf Club has shown not only great patience but also great consideration in allowing dog walkers to walk their dogs on hallowed ground. Whilst the regular group of walkers are fastidious about picking up after their dogs some are are too disrespectful of not only the golfers who play the St Francis Bay Golf Club course but indeed of the entire St Francis community. It really doesn’t matter if you walk your dog on the golf course, the beaches, the wildside, one of the many hiking trails that meander through the nature reserves of the greater St Francis or even the streets and lanes, you really need to do the decent thing and pick up after your dogs.

Below is an appeal from the St Francis Bay Golf club’s Richard Vauqulin and the St Francis Bay Golf Club committee.

Read it and pass it on to other readers and help keep St Francis clean and hygienic. We are after all on the cusp of receiving thousands of holiday makers so need t be proud of our villages, beaches and nature reserves,

The St Francis Bay Golf Club Committee regrettably advise that despite the concessions granted to dog walkers, some owners are flouting the agreed terms. In all likelihood the offenders are new to the area and as such unaware of what was agreed.

The main complaint is not necessarily that dogs are walking on the course but the fact that owners refrain from carrying bags in order to remove the residual deposits. This results in golfers having to continually be on the look out “landmines” which is far from ideal when playing.

The majority of recent complaints regarding above unfortunately came from visitors to the club competing in the Pam Golding Properties St Francis Bay Ladies Open which we hosted over the past weekend. Locals hardly need reminding of the positive contribution made by visitors to the club and community at large.

We wish to reiterate that the golf course is private property though we do permit dog walkers under the following conditions which were agreed:

  1. That the walking of dogs will only be permitted after 16H00. Clearly in the busier holiday season walkers should be on the lookout for golfers still playing and respect their right of way, particularly for their own safety as well as that of their pets.
  1. That dogs must be on a leash.
  1. That owners carry doggie bags and remove their “business cards”.
  1. That owners confine the walking of dogs to the areas covered by the 11, 12th 13th and 14th holes:-the areas closest to the beach.

In the interests of harmony we trust that dog walkers / owners will abide by the agreed terms failing which we reserve our right to revoke aforementioned concessions.

With many thanks

St Francis Bay Golf Club Committee

Pam Golding Ladies open

Good golf, good weather and good fun at Pam Golding Ladies open

Golf is a game played on a large open-air course, in which a small hard ball is struck with a club into a series of small holes in the ground, the object being to use the fewest possible strokes to complete the course.

That is what 128 lady golfers did the weekend of 19th & 20th November in the Pam Golding Properties Ladies Weekend Open on the courses of St. Francis Links and St. Francis Bay (SFBGC). Ladies from as far as Jagersfonteir, East London, Pretoria, George, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Paarl and Cape Town joined ladies from Port Elizabeth and the Kouga region to participate in the biggest ladies event in the Eastern Cape.

But they did much more than just playing golf!  They also experienced a “Lady in Red” gala dinner with music by Peter Papapanayotou, lovely lunch and prize giving and the possibility to win hole-in- one prizes from Dirk Ellis Volkswagen in Jeffreys Bay (VW Polo) and a R5000 voucher from Annemarie’s Boutique in St. Francis Bay.

There were 18 prizes to be won over these two days. The outstanding golfers who won first prizes on both courses were:

  • Francis Links: Amanda Cloete (Simola) & Sunet Venter (Knysna)
  • SFBGC: Janine van der Merwe (SFBGC) & Melinda McCay (Uitenhage)

  • Francis Links: Jill Simmonds & Melanie Bray (Knysna)
  • SFBGC: Gloria Greyvenstein & Gail Botha (Mosselbay

The overall prize winners for the weekend were Jill Simmonds & Melanie Bray

Pam Golding Properties in St. Francis Bay, and especially Richard Arderne, has been involved as the main sponsor for this tournament since inception. The two Clubs and all the Ladies deeply appreciate their involvement in supporting and developing ladies golf.

Thanks also to all the other prize sponsors:

  • Aqua Spa & Skin Clinic
  • Bard’au & Co
  • Carol Horlock – Accommodation prize on Links
  • Glo Beauty & Body Boutique
  • Hibiscus Health & Beauty Studio
  • Prestige Beauty & Body Boutique
  • Francis Point Vineyard

Looking after the fluid supplement for the ladies were Village Square Super Spar, Distell, SAB and 19th hole Wines.
