The Pam Golding Quadrathlon 2022

It’s R120 pp, entries please at www.stfrancissport.co.za but can be on the day. Race briefing 15min before the start. For more info contact Esti on 0738250835

This year the order is as follows:

1. Swim: 500m (not the usual 300m)

2. Cycle: 12km, but not to the Links. It’s 4 x the 3km canal loop.

3. Run: the 3km canal loop as usual.

4. Paddle: the 3km canal loop as usual.

It’s always been a fun family event, a chance to form a team (or 2, 3 or 4) or do all four legs if you feel energetic! It is always chaotic, so don’t expect Iron Man-type facilities!

Some background:

On 2 January 2007, Kipper Halbert and I organised the first Pam Golding Quadrathlon, held at Main Beach, with a sea swim, cycle to the Shark Pt reserve, paddle to the Port and a run to the river mouth.

We then decided to hold a low season Quadrathon, mainly for locals, at the canal harbour. This was held annually, sponsored by Pam Golding and Spar, until 2013, when sadly, new municipal regulations made the administration too much hassle.

The Christmas Pam Golding Quadrathlon luckily continued, held on the canals at the Quays venue since 2011, and has been run by St Francis Sport (Esti and Eric Stewart) ever since.

Hopefully, the photos, which cover most of the Quadrathlons, convey the fun flavour of the events over the last 15 years.
