A crew of St Francis Bay surfers were at the Port Alfred Easter Festival this weekend to compete in the second leg of the Rip Curl GromSearch Series.

The Rip Curl GromSearch Port Alfred, sponsored by the Royal St Andrews Hotel, took place at East Beach. The conditions were small and onshore, but the final day was pretty fun and offshore.
As anticipation for the finals of the U16 Premier division was building, a sudden downpour caught everyone off guard. Despite the scramble for cover, both spectators and surfers alike were left drenched.

U12 Girls Division

In the U12 Girls division, CSF surfer Brin Jarvis did well to place second behind the talented Maya Malherbe from East London, and Summer Harding from CSF came fourth. She probably would have come third, but the judges, unfortunately, missed her last wave in the glare and haze of the ocean.

Cape St Francis Surfer Slade Shooter

Local ripper Slayde Shooter took out all-comers in the Boys U12 Division, placing first. The natural footer also went on to get fourth place in the U14 division, surfing beyond his age group. Slayde stuck to the right-handers, and his strategy paid off.
The Rip Curl GromSearch surf series is based around the U16 division, as this is the age group recognised internationally as the premier division. We had two boys in the final, both from CSF. At the final siren, Rory Dace placed third, and Rylan Jarvis placed fourth.

Seal Point Boadriders

All of the surfers from St Francis are active members of the Seal Point Boardriders club, and have been competing in the Boardriders Club Grom Series that the club has been holding every month at Seal Point Beachbreak

Rip Curl GromSearch Series

The First Rip Curl GromSearch took place in Cape Town, and the next One will take place at Nahoon Reef in East London next month. Nahoon can get quite big and gnarly, and water safety will be on duty throughout the three-day event.
