As we approach the end of 2023 with 2024 on the horizon, it’s remarkable how swiftly time is passing.

The Village Square Superspar and Tops extend warm wishes to all our valued residents and returning customers for a delightful summer holiday break. May this December be filled with joy spent with family and friends.

As you shop and visit our establishments, we kindly seek your cooperation in addressing some important matters.

Trolleys and Baskets:

Our trolleys and baskets are provided for your shopping convenience, and it’s crucial to remember that they are the property of Village Square Superspar and Tops. These assets incur significant costs for purchase and maintenance, and we request your assistance in using them appropriately. Please refrain from utilizing them as go-carts, prams, deck chairs, flower & vegetable gardens, garden swings, beach baskets, etc. Instead, leave them within the Village Square Centre grounds so that there are ample resources for everyone during this busy period. If you come across our trolleys or baskets being misused elsewhere, kindly inform us, and we’ll promptly retrieve them.

Eating in Store:

Please note that consuming food and drinks within the store premises is not permitted. Occasionally, individuals purchase items from the deli counter and begin eating them inside the store, leading to forgetfulness at the checkout. Remember, items belong to us until paid for at the checkout counters. If you bring food or drinks purchased elsewhere into the store, please obtain a sticker from the security guard at the door to indicate that these items have already been paid for. Additionally, it is against the law to consume alcohol within both Tops and Spar stores.

Your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines will be highly appreciated.

Make a Tasty Stuffing

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch sage and/or oregano, chopped (keep a couple of sprigs for the end)
  • 4 Tbsp SPAR butter and extra for dotting
  • 2 Tbsp SPAR extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 SPAR Freshline onion, finely chopped
  • 3 SPAR Freshline garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 200g SPAR streaky bacon beechwood smoked, finely chopped
  • About 10 SPAR prunes, pitted and roughly chopped
  • 1 cup SPAR Marksbury Select parmigiano, pecorino or grana padano finely grated
  • About 8 slices of ciabatta or sourdough, sliced and roughly torn
  • 100g pecan nuts, chopped
  • 2 cups (500ml) chicken stock

Method

    • Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
    • Finely chop half the herbs.
    • Heat butter and oil in a large shallow casserole or pan over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped herbs, onion, garlic and bacon and cook for 4-5 minutes until softened.
    • Either transfer to a bowl or keep in the same pan if you are going to bake the stuffing in the pan.
    • Toss with the prunes, bread and nuts.

If you are baking it in an oven dish, grease a 20x30cm oven dish and spread the stuffing out in a single layer.

  • Scatter over the parmesan and pour over the stock.
  • Add a couple of leaves of oregano. Dot with butter.
  • Set aside to soak for 10 minutes.
  • Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour until golden.
