Sea Vista Primary School recently added tennis to their sporting curricula and in just two months of coaching under Coach Mr B Stafaans, they took on Jeffreys Bay Primary in an historic first tennis match against far more experienced opposition. Played at St Francis Tennis Club courts, Stefaans was proud of how well these young players, playing in their very first tennis match, acquitted themselves.
Unfazed by their more experienced opposition they took up the challenge and according to Stefaans were “not intimidated by their opponents. The final results aside Stefaans praised the boys for their great sportsmanship and gave their all in all their matches. Songezo Mpofu showed from the outset that he is indeed a player to be reckoned with and gave his opponent a tough match. He certainly is a ‘Roger Federer’ in the making.
The other players, Abulele Silolo, Elwarren Coenraad, Lisikhana Skosana and Lunguletho Spekboom (both the latter not available for the photograph) are worth looking out for, particularly young Lunguletho who showed some superb technique.
Thanks to the assistance of Clare Mills as well as St Francis Bay Tennis Club who supplied rackets and tennis balls for the inaugural event.
Well done to all the players and you have truly made your school and the community proud. Never give up your efforts for only with dedication can you succeed. You obviously have talent so keep at it and who knows you could soon put Sea Vista, St Francis and the entire Kouga region famous one day.
Two of the players, Abulele Silolo and Songezo Mpofu will be taking part in the Provincial Championships in Port Elizabeth during the school holidays. Good luck guys and play well.
